OUR STYLE OF YOGA
Our style of Yoga, known as Chikitsa Vinyasa Yoga, aka Therapeutic Flow Yoga, was co-founded by LotusEd’s Director, Dr. Eden Goldman, and is a modern adaptation of the classical style known as Chikitsa Krama Yoga. Modified and refined from the lineage of legendary 20th century Yoga master and healer, Sri T. Krishnamacharya (teacher of B.K.S. Iyengar, Patthaboi Jois, T.K.V. Desikachar, Indra Devi and others), Chikitsa Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes meditative alignment, mindful structural integration, somatic intuition, the art of enlightened therapeutic transition, neuromuscular re-education, and the fluidity of breath, energy, and movement as they relate to the body. The practice harnesses the wisdom and insights of many traditional forms of Yoga and current scientific approaches and is designed to assist the practitioner in developing self-mastery through enhanced physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual awareness.
Classically, vinyasa is the natural artistic fluidity of breath synchronized movement and chikitsa means therapy. Our method of therapeutic Chikitsa Vinyasa Yoga links these qualities together through a synthesis of the most structurally and energetically intuitive elements found in classical and modern Yoga, Thai massage, Qi Gong, Chiropractic mobilizations, Chinese Meridian theory, Western biomechanics, sports medicine, myofascial release bodywork, and functional movement science. The resulting organic system adapts to an individual’s specific needs, capabilities, goals, and intentions in order to support the practitioner step-by-step in developing a mindful balance between his/her breath, movements, energetic awareness, posture, and own self-reliance. In this way, Chikitsa Vinyasa Yoga re-establishes a relationship between the body, the person, and the soul in a kind and gentle harmonization, achieving deep transformation and rediscovered potential without force or injury.
